For the past six weeks, Naomi and I have lived on Zillow and Indeed, searching for a home and a job. We’ve saved several houses but haven’t yet felt clear direction on where in the city God wants us. I recently made it to the final interview for a communications role at Tulane University but wasn’t selected. We’re still knocking on doors and waiting for God to open the right ones. I’ll be honest—it’s exhausting. Good exhausting, but exhausting nonetheless. Weekend naps are non-negotiable at this point, and we’ve had to step up our time and energy management to keep everything moving forward. But we’re in it for the long haul and ready for whatever comes next.
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned from our first attempt in New Orleans is that prayer is the foundation of every God-given assignment. As Dallas Willard once said, “There are some things so important that God has to be involved—that is why we pray.” Building Christ’s church is one of those things. Ashamedly, prayer wasn’t our priority in 2020, and I won’t make that mistake again. This time, we are committed to praying first and praying consistently. I want to invite you to join us in this season of prayer. Will you talk to God on our behalf? Let’s see what happens when a community comes together and routinely, persistently asks God to move.
